Union Territory Wide Area Network (UTWAN), Department of Information Technology

Objectives of the UTWAN

To establish UTWAN as Network Backbone for Data, Video and Voice Communications and this network would act as the vehicle for effective implementation of Electronic Governance (e- Governance) across the UTs.

  • To linkup all the Government’s offices from the Union Territory headquarter called as the State Headquarter (SHQ), District Headquarter (DHQs), Aggregation Points & Horizontal Offices. UTWAN will use a suitable topology, state-of-art technologies and flexibility to expand/upgrade and cover all parts of the Union Territory. All e-Governance Applications, Communication and IT infrastructure would be linked to UTWAN.
  • To build the Union Territory IT infrastructure based on open standards, scalable with high capacity network to carry data, video and voice traffic between different offices of Administration of Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman & Diu at State Head Quarter, District Head Quarters and Aggregation Points & Horizontal Offices. The network will have a single point gateway, of adequate capacity, to Internet and other existing networks.
  • To reduce the expenditure cost of travelling within the Union Territory, between the Union Territories and outside the Union Territories using video conferencing through UTWAN. The officers from remote areas will be able to interact with officers in the Union Territories.
  • To provide telephony and Internet connection through UTWAN which would reduce the expenditure for communication and help them setup effective administration.
  • To provide reliable vertical and horizontal communication corridor within the UT Administration of DD & DNH to make administration more productive and compatible for electronic transactions.
  • To achieve e-governance commitment and bring governance closure to public and provide efficient citizen centric services.
  • To provide information with regard to schemes and programs of departments and agencies of Central, State/UTs and Local Governments including citizen specific forms on the Internet as well as through Citizen Service Centres.
  • To strengthen Disaster Management Capacity.
